Vintage Guitar Serial Numbers - Gretsch

Year Serial Number
1949-1950 3000-3999
1951 4000's, 5000's
1952 5000's, 6000's
1953 6000's-8000's
1954 9000's-12000's
1955 12000's-16000's
1956 17000's-21000's
1957 22000's-26000's
1958 27000's-30000's
1959 30000's-34000's
1960 34000's-39000's
1961 39000's-45000's
1962 46000's-52000's
1963 53000's-63000's
1964 63000's-77000's
1965 77000's-84000's


During 1965, serial numbers changed. The first two digits represented the month, the next digit represented the last digit of the year. The remaining numbers indicated order of production.

Starting in 1967, "made in USA" was stamped on the back of the headstock.

From 1973-1981 the serial numbers were hyphenated. First digits before the hyphen represented the month, first digit after hypen represented the year.
