In 1979, Guild reintroduced the two letter prefix plus serial number system. Each serialization system began with 100001 following the two letter prefix. This continued through 1989.

In 1987, an additional serialization system was introduced where the model designation was the prefix for the serial number; like so: D300027 = 27th D-30 produced.

From 1990 through present, Guild continued the prefix plus serial number system.

The Guild Custom Shop instruments--45th Anniversary, Finesse, and Deco--each use a different numbering system. Serial numbers indicating the guitar's number in the series are on the back of the headstock. A seven digit code can be found inside the guitars. The first three numbers indicate production sequence--they all started at 500. The last four digits indicate the date; the fifth and sixth digits are the month, and the year is indicated by the fourth and seventh digits in reverse.
