Vintage Guitar Serial Numbers - Hamer
The first digit in a Hamer serial number is the year; hence, it would be reused every 10 years. A guitar
produced in 1987 would have a serial number beginning with 7.
From 1974 to 1981, Hamer had two separate serialization systems; one for custom instruments and one for production models.
Custom instruments carried a four digit serial number stamped into the back of the headstock; from 0000 to 0680. This included
all Hamer USA Standards, 12 string basses, and prototype guitars.
Production models have ink-stamped (later in the wood) serial numbers on the back of the headstock. These were five or six digits. The first number indicated the year. The rest of the numbers were stamped sequentially in order of production. 7 0013 = the 13th production model built in 1977. 0 0013 = the 13th built in 1980.
